Burnt Out Boat
Burnt Out Boat
Watercolour (20x 26”) on 140lb paper mounted on board and framed with archival glass.
My desire is to create artwork that evokes feeling, whether by creating a sense of familiarity, sparking a memory or encouraging reflection. I hope my art will cause people to ask themselves questions about how they are moving forward in their life, specifically about their career and how well they are prepared to successfully face the unknown. On the Isle of Skye, Scotland, just behind an RV parking lot in Portree, I spied this lonely burnt out fisherman’s rowboat. It struck me that this had been a hard working boat now simply cast ashore and left charred beyond repair.
At the time I was looking at the opportunity to retire. This boat was a poignant reminder that I needed to proactively seek new challenges after 38 years in the corporate world.
Art became my off ramp. It has provided a new career with opportunities to create, re-energize and establish an enduring visible story.
Critiqued by American Master Watercolour Artist, Thomas Schaller described this as “an artistically brilliant composition…and creatively inspired.”
